Charges after brawl in The Mall Chequers

Two people have been charged after a fight broke out in The Mall Chequers shopping centre in Maidstone.

Trouble broke out last month, just before crowds packed the town for the Christmas lights switch-on.

Michael Ross, 20, of Invicta Road, Sheerness, has been charged with obstructing a police officer. He has been bailed to appear before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on January 31.

Craig Barnes, 21, of Botany Close, Sheerness, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He has been bailed to appear before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on February 11.

An 18 year-old from Sittingbourne and a 19 year-old from Sheerness were both issued with a penalty notice for disorder.
