The family of a Maidstone teenager who died of cancer last year have organised a charity ball in her memory.
Amanda Slann, 17, an Invicta Grammar School student, had been battling leukaemia when she passed away in February following a bone marrow transplant.
Her parents June and Graham Slann from Courtenay Road, Maidstone are hoping the fundraising night on Friday, March 22 at the Orchard Spot in Downswood will be a fitting tribute to their "lovely, bright" daughter.
Entertainment will include performances from Amanda’s school friends and members of Maidstone-based JAG Dance Academy.
All proceeds will go to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity to help buy a portable monitoring system.
Amanda was a patient at the Surrey-based hospital and where she met the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during a royal visit to open a children’s ward in September 2011.
June Slann hopes the ball will raise a considerable sum of money and is rallying local businesses for gift donations which can be used as raffle prizes on the night.
She said: "The money will be used to buy vital equipment so it’s important we raise as much as possible.
"Amanda will have loved to have organised something like this if she was alive, so we’re proud to be able to take care of it for her now."
Tickets for the charity ball, which starts at 7pm, cost £40 and includes a three-course meal.
