An epidemic is about to break out in on Maidstone school and it's going to be in the Kent Messenger.

How do we know all this? Well, pupils at East Borough Primary School are working on a literacy project to find out more about how newspapers cover incidents.

Pupils aged eight and nine have been told that a diseased tropical bird is on the loose in Kent and they are taking no chances in making the scenario as real as possible.

In the coming weeks, a scientist is due to send the school a video explaining how the pandemic should be handled.

And today, the Kent Messenger went to visit the school to share our tips for the young journalists in covering the incident.

The project will take several weeks to conclude, but full reports and pictures will be in future editions of the Kent Messenger.
