Two teenagers who supported their mother during years of crippling cancer treatment have been nominated for a county award.

Rosie Harman, 18 and brother William, 13, from Hollingbourne, have been invited to the Spirit of Try Angle awards.

It's a Kent County Council initiative to celebrate the achievements of young people.

The pair were selected for Sunday's countywide event in Ashford together with about 30 youngsters after appearing at the Try Angle awards held across the borough in June.

They were initially nominated by older sister Stacey, 26, for dedicating their young lives to looking after their mum Kim while she battled ovarian cancer.
Kim, 44, from Eyhorne Street, was diagnosed eight years ago and endured eight major operations.

She is now back at work and said simply of her children: “They saved my life.
She added: “Without them I couldn’t have coped and would’ve caved in by now.
“They’ve always been there for me – doing the housework, cleaning-up, making tea – generally being a tower of strength.
“I was totally shocked to discover they’d been nominated for the county awards, but they deserve it.”

Kim, who works at Tesco in Grove Green, said nothing was too much trouble for her children.

She said: “All the while they were studying and trying to lead normal young lives, they were caring for me physically and emotionally.
“They played the part of parents – William cooks a mean bacon sandwich and made a lovely roast the other day.
“I have such wonderful children.”
