A man who died after being found injured in a village churchyard has been named by police.

51-year-old Stephen Ayre, of Westmorland Road, Maidstone, was found near St Peter and Paul's Church, Aylesford, at 7.30pm on Friday February 26, having apparently fallen from a wall.

Mr Ayre died on Saturday after being transferred from Maidstone Hospital to a hospital in London.

Detectives say they are not treating his death - which was originally classed as "unexplained" - as suspicious, and that Mr Ayre's injuries were "consistent with a fall."

An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned on Friday March 5.

A man was arrested in Aylesford on Sunday in connection with incident, but was subsequently released and is now being treated as a witness by police.
