Soldiers and veterans will march side by side through Maidstone for the annual Civic and Freedom Parade on Sunday.
Around 400 people will take part in the traditional march, which will start at 11am from Week Street. It will move past the town hall, where the new Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Clive English, will take the salute, before proceeding to All Saints’ Church for the civic service.
There will be 200 members of 36 Engineers (Search) involved, who will be exercising their right as Freemen of the Borough to march with bayonets fixed, colours flying and drums beating.
They will be joined by groups including the British Korean Veterans Association, the Parachute Regimental Association, Maidstone Sea Cadets, St John Ambulance Maidstone Cadets, and the Rotary Club of Maidstone. The Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers will entertain the public in Jubilee Square between 10am and 10.30am.
There will be road restrictions as the parade passes to the church, which should be lifted by 11.30am.
