The future of the nation must come first, according to Tunbridge Wells MP Greg Clark (Con).
Mr Clark was re-elected with a massive majority last Thursday but is now waiting to find out whether his party will be able to take power.
Mr Clark said he hoped that the talks between David Cameron and Nick Clegg would result in an agreement that could provide the country with a stable government.
He said: "I’ve very worried about the financial situation around the world and I think this is a time when everybody has to come together as best they can."
Mr Clark said he was not a party to the ongoing discussions but he saw no reason why an agreement couldn’t be reached which would allow a Tory government to govern for a full term. Asked whether there would be another election soon, he said: "It’s not inevitable."
