Go shopping in The Mall Chequers in Maidstone and one person you can be almost sure of seeing is Marjorie Rose.

Marge, as she is known, has been a cleaner there for 28 years - a remarkable achievement in itself... but even more so because Marge has just turned 90.

Marge, of College Road, Maidstone, was treated to a party by the centre management before she started work on her birthday.

The pensioner, who has no intention of retiring, spent the day with balloons attached to her cleaning trolley.

Shopper Joan Allerton said: "Everyone knows Marge. She's an institution.

"She's a lovely person and it’s wonderful she's stlll there working at 90."
