Piles of uncollected rubbish are causing knock-on effects for neighbours, residents complain.
Neighbours of an apartment complex expressed their concerns about a growing mountain of waste outside the building - with some left awaiting collection for more than a month.
Residents of Primrose House on Westmorland Road, Maidstone have had to pile up their bin bags and the problem is now affecting people living nearby.
Ben Sinden, 37, who is one of the affected neighbours said: “The rubbish blows into my garden meaning I have to pick it up and put it in my bin.
“It shouldn’t be my job but it is. I clean it up and then what happens, it fills my bins. What am I meant to do with my rubbish?”
The ground worker, as well as other residents of Westmorland, have said that the pile is so awful that there have been times where something can be heard rummaging within the refuse.
Mr Sinden initially reported the situation with Maidstone Borough Council on February 25.
He said: “I phoned to complain but I was told it’s down to the residents to complain and that they would make a note and get back to me.
“I phoned again a week later and they say that my last request has been filed and it is pending.”
Maidstone Borough Council said it was aware of the issue and working with the contractor to resolve it as quickly as possible.
A spokesperson from the authority said: “Unfortunately, some of the waste is not properly contained in waste bins, and will be the responsibility of the landlord to dispose of.”
Since the issue was raised the rubbish has been picked up but any overflowing waste was left.
On the recent tidy-up MBC said: “Organised by Maidstone Borough Council, our contractor Biffa cleared all bagged waste from the highway and emptied the bins.
“The crew was not asked to remove the waste from the front garden of the property as this is still the responsibility of the landlord or managing agent to dispose of.”
Though much of the waste was removed, all loose bags were left.
Mr Sinden added: “The mess is still there.
“All I can do now is put up mesh fencing around my front garden to attempt to stop the rubbish blowing into it.”
