The A249 in Detling Hill will close tonight for emergency repair works.

A collapsed drain cover has closed one Maidstone bound lane between Detling Showground and Jade's Crossing.

The problem, which was first noticed this morning, has caused long delays all day.

The overnight works should be completed by 5am tomorrow but the lane will remain closed on Tuesday to allow for the works to set.

The road will also be closed for the same hours the following night to allow for patching repairs.

A signed diversion is in place and drivers are warned to expect delays during the works.

It is anticipated that the problem will be resolved by 5am on Wednesday, December 4.
