Commuting nightmare

Commuters struggled to get to work this morning after facing more delays and cancellations from Southeastern.

The nightmare began when the 7.40am Medway Valley train was three minutes late leaving Maidstone West. It left workers heading for Cannon Street cursing as they arrived at Paddock Wood station - just in time to see their connecting train to the capital leaving the platform.

Instead they boarded the 8.14am to Charing Cross, only to sit on the train in the station for an hour.

Southeastern announced another train had broken down ahead of them causing the delay.

The train eventually left Paddock Wood at 9.10, but only got as far as Tonbridge before Southeastern ordered everyone off and annnounced the service was cancelled.

Maidstone commuter Helen Fairley said: "The service is now worse than it ever was with Connex. There’s seldom a day passes when we don’t have a delay, and seldom a week when we don’t have a major problem like this one."
