Some members of staff and pupils from a primary school in Maidstone have been told to self isolate after a child tested positive for Covid-19.
St Francis' Catholic Primary School in Queen's Road says those in contact with the pupil, and part of their class 'bubble', will have to stay home for 14 days. The rest of the school will remain open in line with public health guidance.
Head teacher Elisabeth Blanden confirmed: “A pupil at our school has tested positive for Covid-19 and, as a result, we have ensured that all those in the class ‘bubble’ are now self-isolating.
“The pupil did not catch the virus at school and did not display symptoms whilst in school.
“This means that staff and children in the same bubble have been asked to self-isolate for 14 days, even if they have no symptoms, to avoid unknowingly spreading the virus.
“St Francis' Catholic Primary School continues to adhere to regulations and government guidance, including identifying and isolating close contacts and full and thorough cleaning.
“We have been working hard, in collaboration with Kent County Council and Public Health England, to ensure any spread of the virus is minimised and we have a wealth of safety measures in place.
“For this reason the school remains open for children in all of the other bubbles."
Last month, a teaching assistant and a pupil at Ifield School in Gravesend tested positive for coronavirus.
Both were said to have been "recovering well".
