Five hundred Easter eggs and 400 hot cross buns were donated to Maidstone Hospital following a day of fundraising by Kent Police and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

On Good Friday staff in the shared Force Control Room on Sutton Road held a ‘dress down’ day to raise funds for doctors and nurses working in the NHS.

Everyone taking part was encouraged to give a minimum donation of £1, with a total of £137 raised.

The Morrisons supermarket down the roads exchanged the money for more food than officers were expecting and the items were delivered to Maidstone Hospital on Easter Sunday.

Chief Inspector Alex Tyler, from the Force Control Room, said: ‘We’re proud to support to our colleagues in the NHS and this donation was a small way in which we could show our gratitude for the amazing work they do.

‘The public can also feel assured that our officers are continuing to patrol the county to ensure the Government’s instructions to stop the spread of Covid-19 are being followed and, where necessary, remind people of their responsibilities.

‘We’re grateful for the support the people of Kent have so far shown and ask that everyone continues to follow the instructions to stay at home, so we can protect the NHS and save lives.’
