Members of the public will have a rare opportunity to see the inner workings of Maidstone Crown Court when an open day is held next month.
In an action-packed day on Saturday, May 13, visitors will be able witness often hilarious mock trials involving judges, lawyers and court staff role-playing, make a visit to the cells, watch how fingerprints are taken and see police search dogs in action.
“Visitors will be able to learn about a career in law or as a probation officer, a journalist or a police officer,” said a court spokesman.
There will also be a competition to find the best young court journalist on the day. Those aged 11 to 18 are eligible to enter.
The court’s resident judge Jeremy Carey said: "The open day aims to be both informative and entertaining.
"Mock trials, mock sentencing, cell visits (you will be released) and numerous other attractions make a visit between 10am and 3pm a must.
"You have read about Maidstone Crown Court enough times, now come to our open day and see what goes on here for yourself.
"You will be surprised what you learn about the criminal justice system, its participants and the building itself. Admission free – release guaranteed!"
