A two-car crash blocked a lane of a busy town centre road - causing major delays in the area.

The collision happened in Sheals Crescent, in Maidstone, just after 4.40pm yesterday.

The incident, which involved a grey Ford Focus and a silver Vauxhall Zafira, caused long tailbacks on Loose Road and other surrounding routes heading onto the one-way system.

One of the drivers was complaining of back pain but their injuries were not thought to be serious.

Officers from Kent Police were at the scene to manage the queuing traffic.

The congestion was exasperated by motorists avoiding the M20.

Delays were reported on the coast-bound carriageway, between junction 3 for Sevenoaks and junction 5 for Leybourne, because of a broken down vehicle.

All routes were cleared by 8.30pm
