TERRY HOLLOWAY, chairman of The Mote Cricket Club in Maidstone, has died.

Mr Holloway was born in Liverpool where he played both cricket and football to a high amateur standard, but he moved to Maidstone and joined The Mote in 1973.

He was elected chairman in 1996 after being a playing member for more than two decades.

In his first year, the ladies section and the Kent Cricket Board (KCB) were established and he oversaw the reintroduction of the Colts Section in 1997.

Both the colts section and the ladies section thrived under his leadership.

He steered the club through the changes introduced by the KCB, paricularly to the league structure, and was rewarded when The Mote won the Kent League title in 1999. Two years later they finished runners-up.

He has worked hard to forge the foundations for the proposed creation of a centre of excellence for cricket at The Mote within a multi-sports complex also to include rugby, squash and tennis.

He died in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A service will be held at St Peters Catholic Church, Button Lane, Bearsted, at 1pm on Monday (October 10).
