TONBRIDGE Angels chairman Nick Sullivan has revealed an ‘embarrassing’ FA Cup performance at Ware on Saturday signalled the end of Tony Dolby’s four years as manager.

Angels went down 3-1 to the Ryman League, Division One South side and Dolby was told his services, and those of assistant manager Mike Rutherford, were no longer required during a Monday night showdown.

Sullivan said: "It is purely down to results and Ware was the final straw. We’re sitting second from bottom in the league and it was time for someone new to come in and get us out of the mess we are in.

"Ware was the worst performance I have seen from a Tonbridge Angels side. I was highly embarrassed. Those who run and invest in the club were very concerned and the decision was made then."

Dolby admitted he left the Monday night meeting with a heavy heart but was not surprised at the decision.

He said: "There was a lot of soul-searching in the meeting but it did not come as a shock. I respect their decision although from a footballing point of view we have picked up, playing well and scoring lots of goals."
