A council is linking up with a recycling company to reduce landfill and help us all to declutter our homes.
Maidstone council is partnering with the Anglo Recycling Company Limited to introduce doorstep collections for unwanted clothing, footwear, various household objects and small electrical items.
All donations from residents are carefully sorted, repurposed and rehomed to others who need the items most.
This initiative helps stop items from being sent to landfill and reduces carbon emissions.
After costs, Anglo Recycling donates 60% of the proceeds to partnered charities. In addition, as part of a commitment to the environment, the company will plant a tree for each collection booking made, further helping to absorb Co2.
Cllr Clive English (Lib Dem) is the cabinet member for environmental services. He said: “We are really pleased to be partnering with Anglo Recycling in this simple, free and convenient way to declutter your belongings, while supporting a charity.
“This service is really simple to use: book a collection online and follow the steps onscreen.”
“Pick a charity to support and leave your items outside for the drivers. There’s no need to be at home, although if you are - you can keep the items indoors and the Anglo driver will knock on your door to collect. Just please check what can or cannot be accepted.”
All donations need to be put into boxes or bags. Residents will receive an email from the company the day before, giving a two-hour window when the collection will take place.

Unfortunately, there are a number of items that can’t be collected. They include board games, furniture, bicycles and mattresses.
