Drink-drive charge after car crashed into hedge on Tovil Road, near Courtenay Road, Maidstone

A man has been charged with drink-driving after being arrested following an early-morning crash which shunted a car into a hedge.

Two vehicles, a red Vauxhall Corsa and a grey Lexus, were involved in the smash in Tovil Road, Maidstone, just after 7.30am yesterday.

The road, at the junction with Courtenay Road, was partially blocked causing tailbacks.

The Lexus driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving.

Nathan Marchington, 57, of Silverdale Avenue, Minster-on-Sea, has since been charged with driving above the legal alcohol limit.

He has been bailed to appear at Maidstone Magistrates' Court on December 17.

A recovery vehicle removed the significantly-damaged red Corsa from the hedge shortly after the incident.

Police and paramedics attended the scene. One man, who was suffering from neck pain, was taken to the Tunbridge Wells hospital.
