Drivers faced delays of up to 75 minutes at the Dartford Tunnel due to emergency roadworks.

There was start-stop traffic and delays on the M25 anti-clockwise to just before J4 for Orpington during rush-hour.

It brought traffic to a near stand-still on many roads in the area, including the A2 in both directions, the A206, A225, A296 and all routes in and out of Dartford town centre.

These were contributed to by temporary lights for emergency roadworks off J31 Grays.

Highways England have now changed the priority of the signals to help traffic get off the motorway.

Traffic did not return to normal until around 9.30pm.
