Did a sat nav error lead a convoy of military vehicles to a railway station instead of a town's barracks?

Residents in Buckland Hill in Maidstone – home to Maidstone Barracks station – were left scratching their heads after around 15 army trucks were seen in the road at about 11pm last night.

Russ Talliss took a snapshot of the passing convoy and posted on image online, adding: "Have no idea what was going on in Buckland Hill earlier around 11pm.

"There must have been at least 15 huge military trucks. Looked like the start of an invasion lol [sic]. I asked one driver and she blanked me."

While some speculated martial law was about to be imposed on the area, others suggested they may have been heading to the town's Invicta Park barracks, although some noted the proximity of Maidstone Barracks Station, in Buckland Hill.

Invicta Park Barracks, home to the 36 Engineer Regiment, is located about a mile-and-a-half across town.

But a simple search of Google maps for Maidstone Barracks brings up the result for the railway station rather than the name of the actual military base in town.

"It would be funny if they were looking for the barracks and got the station instead!" noted Bridge Ward councillor Stuart Jeffery.

Another added: "Where are we going? Dunno, just put 'Maidstone Barracks' in the Sat Nav."

The Ministry of Defence has been contacted for further information.
