Did you walk, run or bus it into work?

Did you come to work without your car on Friday?

At the climax of the second annual Maidstone Goes Green week, shoppers, visitors and workers were encouraged to leave their motor at home and find a greener way into town.

The incentive - aside from a feeling of moral pride - was a free breakfast, which could be claimed outside the town hall.

Displays on recycling, composting and bike safety run throughout the week, culminating in Friday’s In Town Without My Car Day.

On Friday people are being asked to leave their car at home and make it into work by any other means - by walking, pedal power, by bus, or even something more wacky - by canoe along the River Medway perhaps?

Kent Messenger reporters will be leaving their cars at home that day and Arriva and Nu Venture buses are offering reduced price travel - with vouchers available by in the current edition of the Kent Messenger.

Make it Maidstone, Make it Green week is being organised by Town Centre Management, in conjunction with Countrystyle Waste Management, Kent County Council with support from Maidstone Council.
