A motorbiker killed in a crash this morning was a popular hairdresser from Herne Bay.
Kevin Almond, 55, who ran the town’s Nutcutters barbers for 32 years, was pronounced dead at the scene after the smash on the A20 at Hollingbourne at 9.45am.
He was riding a black Yamaha bike when it crashed near the junction 8 roundabout of the M20.
Emergency crews raced to the scene, but despite resuscitation attempts they were unable to save him.
Mr Almond’s heartbroken wife Kay, with whom he has four children, broke the news to his many friends on Facebook, writing: “Today the love of my life has gone forever.
“Kevin Almond had a fatal motorbike accident this morning and mine and our children's lives have been changed forever.”
Sci-fi fan Mr Almond, who also has four children from a previous marriage, was a familiar face in the town and famed for his charity work.
He would regularly dress up the front of his barbers in Bank Street and only recently took part in the ice bucket challenge.
Poignantly speaking about his children in 2012, Mr Almond said: “My dad died when I was 22 and I know how sad it is to lose your father young.
“I figure I've probably only got about 20 years left so I want to make the most of my time with them.
Following the crash, the A20 was closed at the M20 junction 8 roundabout and traffic was diverted via the overpass.
If anyone witnessed the crash or has any information that may help police they should call the serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538.
