A doctor will today share his experiences of the Obama campaign trail at a special celebration party to mark the new US president's inauguration.

Maidstone GP Dr Rav Seeruthun, the Labour's prospective Parliamentary candidate (PPC) for Maidstone and the Weald, travelled to America last year to help persuade voters to turn out for the Illinois senator.

Today, as President Obama moves into the White House, Dr Seeruthun will be talking about his trip at a Cambridge party organised by the Labour Party.

Dr Seeruthun described helping the first black man into the White House as an "absolute privilege".

He said: "I remember doing speeches about Martin Luther King at school, but never thought this would happen in my lifetime."
