A suspected heroin dealer has been arrested after drugs and knives were seized following a stop and search.
Officers carrying out foot patrols in Maidstone town centre stopped the man after they noticed him acting suspiciously.
During their search, which took place in King Street yesterday, officers discovered a substance believed to be heroin in his possession.
The suspect, aged 53 and from Maidstone, was then arrested.
But a further search in custody led to the seizure of two mobile phones and a quantity of cash.
Officers then discovered a further two wraps, a set of scales and multiple knives after entering a property linked to the man.
He has since been released pending further investigation.
The patrols in the town centre were part of an ongoing initiative by Kent Police to tackle knife crime and associated offences.
Maidstone Chief Inspector Ray Quiller said: "Our officers won’t hesitate to use stop and search powers on anyone we believe to be involved in the supply of drugs, or who may also be carrying weapons such as knives.
"By working in partnership with other law enforcement agencies such as British Transport Police and neighbouring forces we are working relentlessly to ensure offenders are brought before the courts.
"It is also important residents remain vigilant, to ensure our town remains a safe place to live and visit and your help continues to be invaluable. Make sure you report anything suspicious by calling 999 if there is a crime in progress. Otherwise contact 101."
