A drunken man who had split with his girlfriend carried out a string of offences in the wake of the break-up, including assaulting her and threatening to burn her and her house down.
David Thompson, 43, could not come to terms with the fact his relationship had broken down and not only assaulted his former partner, but also threatened to kill a man she knew and then later abused a police sergeant by calling him a f*****.
Thompson, of College Road, Maidstone, was charged with a string of offences after his romance came to an end – a total of six crimes in just over a two-week period in November.
He appeared before magistrates in Medway on December 19, where he admitted making calls to his former partner's phone and threatening to burn her house down on November 12.
Thompson also pleaded guilty to assaulting her in Maidstone between November 16 and November 27 after an argument over his phone and making another threatening communication of an offensive nature on November 27, when he text the same women threatening to kill a man she knew.
While in the dock, he also pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Mill Street, Maidstone, and verbally abusing people there on November 28. After he was arrested later that day, he then verbally abused a custody sergeant by calling him a homophobic name.
He also admitted that charge when he appeared in the dock.
James Nichols, prosecuting, told the court that during his crime spree, Thompson not only assaulted the woman but threatened to burn her house down and kill a man she knew.
He added: "He made the phone call threatening to burn her and her house down.
"He also said he had set his own face on fire and was getting treatment at East Grinstead hospital and he then text to say he will kill her friend too.
"On November 28 he was found in Maidstone running between cars and was arrested for being drunk and disorderly and shouting and abusing people.
"When he got to the police station, he called the custody sergeant a f*****."
The court also heard Thompson had been getting help since he carried out his crime spree as his drinking was out of control and that he now knew his relationship was over and he didn't recall many things he'd done while under the influence of alcohol.
Magistrates decided to place him on a 12-month community order which will see him carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
Thompson was also ordered to complete a six-month alcohol treatment programme and attend 25 rehabilitation sessions.
He was also fined £50 each for the drunk and disorderly and one of the threatening behaviour offences and must pay £50 compensation to the police sergeant.
Thompson was also ordered to pay £114 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
