by Andy Gray An ambulance driver who posed as a policeman to warn a motorist he thought was speeding appeared in court today.
Andrew Peach, 39, admitted impersonating a special constable.
Magistrates heard Peach, formerly of Bambridge Court, Maidstone, used a blue flashing light to pull over the motorist near Maidstone Barracks on September 12, 2010.
He told the driver he was a special constable and demanded to see his identity.
He then warned him he faced losing his licence and going to court, before driving off.
Concerned at the way Peach spoke to him in a non-police uniform, the driver contacted police. Records showed Peach was a former special constable.
When interviewed, Peach said he intervened because he was "incensed" by the driver’s speed, which he claimed was 106mph.
He said as an ambulance driver, he had seen too many accidents caused by speeding drivers and wanted to prevent another one.
He later admitted it was wrong to use a blue flashing light when not authorised, and said he was ashamed of his actions.
The court heard how Peach was forced to resign from South East Coast Ambulance Service in January and is currently homeless.
He was due to be sentenced later today.
