A man was arrested at a Toby Carvery restaurant after a "disturbance" left families shaken.
A commotion broke out as diners tucked into their meals at the Maidstone branch, with an off-duty police officer springing into action.
A man was detained on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly - before more officers arrived at the scene.
The suspect - who was taken to hospital for medical attention - was later released without charge.
A diner who witnessed the commotion at the Laight Road restaurant said: "We were hoping to enjoy a quiet dinner but all of a sudden we heard this man shouting.
"At first we assumed it was just someone mucking about but then people started moving out of their seats to get away from him and it all got a bit tense.
"No one seemed to know what to do, then out of nowhere a woman appeared, grabbed the guy by the arms and marched him outside reading him his rights - I assume she was an off-duty police officer who just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
"There were quite a lot of families there at the time who looked quite shaken."
The incident happened at about 7pm on Wednesday, but Kent Police was only able to provide details this morning.
