Throughout his life and his battle with cancer Roy Fairway never shirked a challenge.
Now his family are set to complete their own challenge in his memory - a 200km bike ride raising money for the Heart of Kent Hospice.
Mr Fairway, of Marion Crescent, Maidstone, died in May last year, aged 74, and was chairman of Maidstone Horticultural Society and the Maidstone and District Snooker League.
In his spare time he ran a youth club in Willington Street with wife Yvonne.
On Saturday, May 30, members of his immediate family including sons Mark and David, daughter Angela and son-in-law Clive Nye will aim to complete their 200km challenge in a day.
It is called the Gardens of Kent cycle ride, as the riders will visit Stoneacre, Brogdale, Sissinghurst, Scotney, Hadlow gardens, Ightham Mote and Great Comp, some of Mr Fairway’s favourite gardens.
The group will set off at 6am from the Heart of Kent Hospice at Preston Hall, Aylesford.
Mark Fairway, who lives in Loose, said: “We wanted to come up with a challenge that was fitting to dad.
“He never shirked the challenge of beating cancer and if he was doing this challenge, he wouldn’t have shirked that either.”
The family aims to raise £5,000.
