MORE than 2,000 homes in a Kent town were without power on Saturday morning, after a high voltage fault knocked out supplies.

The power cut affected 2,092 homes in Maidstone and householders had to go without power for two hours, while engineers from EDF Energy Networks tried to fix the fault.

A spokesman for the company said power was lost at 9.43am, but that all homes had power restored at 11.49am.

The spokesman added: "Engineers are still investigating what caused the fault, but we have managed to switch distribution to get electricity back to the homes affected.

"EDF Energy Networks apologise to customers for any inconvenience."

A high voltage problem is also being blamed for power cuts in Bexhill, East Sussex, which affected 3,000 homes, also on Saturday morning.
