Maidstone's FA Trophy run is over after FC Halifax scored an injury-time winner on Tuesday night.
The second round tie was heading for a replay at the Gallagher Stadium until Halifax striker Gareth Seddon pounced with seconds to spare to secure a 2-1 victory for the Blue Square Bet North side.
United fell behind inside five minutes when Seddon struck and with only one available striker in Ian Draycott, they looked set to be in for a long night.
But on-loan Gillingham midfielder Alex Brown (pictured) equalised on 23 minutes and Stones enjoyed the best of the chances before half-time against opponents who play two leagues above them.
Maidstone boss Jay Saunders tweeted: "Gutted! Proud of the boys, they were a credit to themselves and the club tonight. And thank you to the supporters who were different class."
