Fire crews continue to monitor a straw blaze in a field near West Malling.

Two appliances and a water unit were called to the scene in Bull Road, Birling, just before 1pm yesterday, when a pile of hay bales and stacked straw went up in flames.

They managed to get the fire under control but crews were stationed at the scene throughout the night, and have returned again this morning, while the pile burns itself out.
