Firefighters tackle corn field fire in Harrietsham, Maidstone

Firefighters have been working to put out a corn field fire.

Residents living near Court Lodge Road in Harrietsham, Maidstone, were advised to close windows and doors due to the smoke.

A team was first sent to the field fire at about 4.40pm yesterday.

At the height of the blaze, eight fire engines, a technical rescue unit, a fogging unit, multi-terrain vehicles and a bulk water carrier were at the scene.

Crews then worked to damp down any hot spots.

No injuries have been reported.

The advice to close doors and windows remained in place overnight, until the smoke had cleared.

A spokesman from the service said: “Please share this information with any loved ones in the affected area, who might not have access to the internet or social media. Thank you.”
