At least one man has been injured as eight fire engines tackle a large blaze involving two properties.
Crews were called to a bungalow in Forge Lane, Headcorn, near to the junction with the High Street, just before 4.30pm.
Now crews are dealing with a second fire at a property in the High Street.
Firefighters, wearing breathing masks, are using hose reel jets, main jets, fog spikes and a compressed air foam system to prevent the fire from spreading through the roof void above the properties.
A fire service height vehicle has also been sent to fight the blaze from above.
They are joined by police who are managing the traffic in the area.
The blaze, which has been described as "large", has led to the closure of the High Street in both directions.
A fire spokesman said: "Crews are working alongside paramedics to treat a man in his mid 30s for burns to his feet, together they're cooling his burns using water before he's taken to hospital."
The cause of the fire at this stage is not known.
A police spokesman said: "Officers are currently at the scene to assist Kent Fire and Rescue Service with a road closure.
"No injuries have been reported."
