Gasworks set to go on for five weeks have been delayed.
Farleigh Lane and Glebe Lane in Maidstone were both expected to close yesterday (March 4).
The closures are to allow for gas main replacements by SGN.
However, this has now been delayed due to other works in the area.
A spokesman from SGN said: “The start of our work in Farleigh Lane has been postponed by one week.
“This is due to our engineering team finding additional pipes where they’re currently working in nearby Terminus Road.
“We’re sorry for the delay to this essential work and thank the local community for their patience and understanding.”
The old gas mains were originally recorded on paper maps and have since been transferred over to a digital system.
As a result, engineers can sometimes come across errors or missing information.
The additional pipes discovered in Terminus Road will need to be investigated and replaced along with the others.
Residents and commuters are already dealing with emergency works on Tonbridge Road after a gas leak.
It has been closed in both directions between Terrace Road and Milton Street since last Thursday (February 29).
Drivers face a lengthy diversion via Hermitage Lane, A20 London Road, A20 Rocky Hill and A26 Tonbridge Road and vice versa.
Glebe Lane will be closed at the junction with Farleigh Lane.
It was expected to reopen by next Friday (March 15), however this will be pushed back.
Farleigh Lane will be shut between the junction of Tonbridge Road and the entrance of Gatland Lane.
The works are expected to be completed in five weeks and were initially set to finish on Monday, April 8.
However, due to the delays, it should reopen by April 15.
Traffic will need to go via the A26 Tonbridge Road, A20 Terrace Road, A20 Broadway, A229 Fairmeadow, Bishops Way, Palace Avenue, Lower Stone Street, Upper Stone Street, Sheals Crescent, Postley Road, Old Tovil Road, Tovil Road, Tovil Hill, Farleigh Hill, Dean Street, Lower Road, Station Hill, Farleigh Bridge, Farleigh Hill and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained for both roads during the works.
