Alerts for flooding and high winds have been issued as an exisiting warning for heavy rain remains in place.

The Environment Agency says flooding is possible for Rivers Eden, Eden Brook and Kent Ditch from Blindley Heath to Penshurst, including Edenbridge and Hever.

It warns residents in affected areas should monitor local water levels and weather conditions, avoid using low-lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding, and to start acting on flood plans if they have one.

The warning comes as a yellow weather alert issued by The Met Office for heavy rain this weekend remains in place.

The authority says there is a chance of disruption to homes, businesses and services.

The warning has been extended throughout today and Monday.

A Met Office spokesman said: “After a wet week, further heavy and at times thundery showers, are expected on Monday. The most frequent and prolonged of which are most likely during the morning.

“Many parts of the warning area will see 10 to 20mm whilst the wettest spots, most likely near to English Channel coasts, could see 30 to 35mm.”

But following this warning this morning, the organisation now says Kent could be affected by high winds on Thursday as Storm Ciarán slams into the south east.

It could cause damage to buildings and homes, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down and flying debris causing danger to life.

There is also a small chance injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.

There is a small chance that roads, bridges and railway lines could close, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights.

Meanwhile, a flood alert issued yesterday from Sandgate to Dungeness remains in place.

Communities on that stretch of the coast include: Hythe, Dymchurch, St Marys Bay, Littlestone, Greatstone, New Romney and communities on the Romney Marsh up to the Royal Military Canal.

Another warning is in place from Fairlight in neighbouring East Sussex to Lydd and Dungeness including the Tidal Rother.
