Former 7Bone unit, Headgardeners barber shop and Skills Plus Centre in Maidstone sell at Clive Emson auction

A former job centre has sold at auction for well above its guide price.

The Skills Plus Centre in St Faith’s Street, Maidstone, had a freehold guide price of £100-£110,000 but was bought for £187,000 at a Clive Emson auction.

The single-storey property, which also had a courtyard garden at the back and forecourt at the front, is next to the town’s library and adult education centre.

Auctioneer Kevin Gilbert said: “This is a building in a superb position in St Faith’s Street, almost opposite the St Faiths Street entrance to the shopping facilities in Fremlin Walk.

“Inside there is an open-plan office or lecture room, separate office, toilet and kitchen.”

Another lot up for auction was the barber shop Headgardeners at 17 Union Street, which shut earlier this year.

It has a retail unit on the ground floor and a one-bedroom flat above and the freehold sold for £202,000.

Meanwhile, another unit up for grabs was the former 7Bone restaurant at 42-44 Earl Street.

It shut suddenly in July 2022 and was previously a Cafe Rouge.

The freehold of the double-fronted property had a guide price of £200,000-plus but was sold after the auction.
