A 28-year-old man accused of driving a car which struck and injured a Kent police officer has appeared in court.

Scott Alexander, of no fixed home, did not enter a plea when he appeared before magistrates in Maidstone.

Alexander, originally from the Medway area, faces eight charges relating to an incident on October 27 which followed an alleged attempt to steal power tools valued at £239.94 from the B&Q store in Barker Road, Maidstone.

The charges include an attempt to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to acting inspector Brendan Morris, possession of heroin, attempted theft and motoring offences, including dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

The magistrates remanded Alexander in custody and committed the case to Maidstone Crown Court for trial with a preliminary hearing set for Friday, November 18.

Thomas Noble, 48, of Cunningham Road, Chatham, also appeared in court charged with aggravated vehicle taking and attempted theft in connection with the same incident. He was released on conditional bail to appear at the same hearing on November 18.
