Youngsters showed off their artistic creations during an afternoon picnic to celebrate the River Medway.

Children from schools around Maidstone paraded sculptures and banners at Whatman Park on Saturday as part of the Medway Valley Countryside Partnership’s Riverside Community Project.

The project aims to raise awareness of the wildlife and heritage of the river and all the art work had a River Medway theme.

Charlotte Curtis from the partnership said: “The river has lots of wildlife and heritage, but it gets forgotten. The day was important to get people interested.”
