A town centre is set to get its third Greggs bakery.
The popular chain has announced it will be opening eight new stores around the country within the next two months.
Among the chosen locations is Week Street in Maidstone – despite the town already having two branches.
One is just metres away in King Street, while the second is in The Mall shopping centre.
It would be the latest addition to a long line of fast-food eateries which have been welcomed to the town.
In recent years, Maidstone has added Wendy’s, Taco Bell and a relocated Subway and Burger King to Week Street.
It’s not known yet exactly where the shop will be, but empty units in the street include the former Grill 91, near KFC and McDonald’s, the old Monsoon and Game store, and the vacant Morrisons supermarket unit.
The bakery chain has shut 44 shops in the first half of the year, but also opened 94 branches over the same time.
In February, it opened its first drive-thru in the county in Sittinbourne.
Greggs has been approached for more information.
