A key motorway slip road was closed after a lorry shed its load.

The accident happened on the coastbound M20 Junction 7 slip road for Detling, near Maidstone, and the A249, just after 5pm today.

Traffic on the M20 wanting to come off at Junction 7 was having to continue to Junction 8 and then rejoin the M20 in the London direction to travel back to Junction 7.

There were long delays, which had a knock-on impact on Maidstone town centre, according to Kent Highways, where there was heavy congestion on the A229 Royal Engineers Road and the A20 London Road.

National Highways and police were at the scene.
