A road closure is continuing to cause chaos for drivers while electricity repairs are carried out.

Station Hill, in East Farleigh, has been shut since Tuesday with motorists being diverted via alternative routes.

UK Power Networks are currently carrying out repairs and maintenance on an electricity cable.

It means that East Farleigh Bridge, which runs over the River Medway, is also out of action.

A diversion route in place, with motorists being taken over the Teston Bridge instead.

But the disruption is causing the surrounding roads and streets to become congested at peak times.

Back in September, Farleigh Lane leading to East Farleigh Bridge, was closed for a month due to a gas mains replacement.

One business owner at the time said: "It’s a bit of a nightmare and makes me question whether we should even bother to open."

People took to social media to vent their frustration on the recent closure.

One resident said: "People were doing u-turns at the top by the pub and going to Teston, which was very busy."

Another said: "I will avoid it as it was chaos earlier, gridlocked all round!

"Took me over half an hour to get down and over the bridge."

The road is expected reopen on Monday.

A spokeswoman for UK Power Networks said: "Our engineers are completing essential repairs to an electricity cable in Station Hill, to maintain reliable electricity supplies for local residents.

"For safety reasons a temporary road closure is in place while engineers excavate and repair the fault and return the road to normal as swiftly as possible.

"We apologise for any disruption and will complete the work as quickly as possible."
