Commuter links and house prices aren't always the best measures of a place.
In answer to the Sunday Times latest rankings, we've come up with a few of our favourite towns and village in west Kent to visit.
Listed in no particular order, the Kent Messenger team has based its decisions on scenery, community and a slight bias towards particularly good pubs.
Here are a few of the best places to live and visit in west Kent.
Aylesford
The heart of the village is a far cry from the traffic woes nearby. Instead picturesque scenery is mirrored in the river running the heart of the town.
Sutton Valence
How many communities are willing to shut their roads, just to have a water slide for a day?
Sutton Valence is one of them. Every year the hilly village shuts a road for a day of fun and fundraising, all organised by the local community.
Sissinghurst
The Weald village's garden are a sight to behold, with a castle that dates all the way back to the 12th century.
If history and the outdoors aren't your thing, The Milk House pub won a Best Food Offer award last year.
Linton
For stunning view of the Weald, look no further than Linton.
For a place to take it all in with a drink in hand, your best bet is The Bull Inn.
Westerham
It's a town steeped in history. A stone's throw from Winston Churchill's home at Chartwell.
Westerham has plenty of places to visit, but even a stop at the green will give visitors a view worth taking in.
