Maidstone Hospital has taken delivery of a new mobile breast screening unit.
It means far more people living in west Kent community can now be screened for breast cancer.
The new unit is part of a programme by the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust to refresh and modernise its equipment at the Trust.
The screening lab is located to the rear of the hospital in Hermitage Lane, behind the Peggy Wood Breast Care Centre.
After a period at Maidstone, it will move to Tunbridge Wells hospital to support patients there.
The new mobile replaces an older unit and provides a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients attending breast screening appointments – it is also fitted with a patient lift to ensure easy access for all.
Julie Trevers, the superintendent mammographer at the Peggy Wood Breast Care Centre, said: "Breast screening is important in detecting breast cancer. Early detection increases the chances of recovery and results in better outcomes for patients.
“We are delighted to have these new facilities."
