Hospital unit damaged by fire

A HOSPITAL unit was damaged by fire over the weekend.

A small fire broke out at Farm Villa at Maidstone Hospital on Saturday evening.

Maidstone firefighters were called just before 8.15pm and two crews attended the single-storey office block, which is used to host the West Kent NHS and Social Care Trust's IT help-desk.

The building was unoccupied, and firefighters managed to get the situation under control using two hose reel jets and breathing equipment.

There was some minor damage to the entrance and the unit also suffered some smoke damage.

Staff have returned to work today and a clean up operation is underway.

No members of the public were hurt. It is not yet known how the fire started.

Farm Villa is situated on the hospital site on Hermitage Lane, but it is not a part of the Trevor Gibbons Unit, as has previously been reported.
