There's a happy ending to our story about a hound that escaped onto the M20 in the Monday morning rush hour.

The black and white border collie, called Ben, who slowed rush-hour traffic is back home and none the worse for his ordeal.

Ben wandered onto the M20 on Monday morning, near junction 7.

And if that wasn’t enough dicing with death for one disorientated dog, he avoided further calamity after straying onto the High Speed train track.

Police began to get calls from worried motorists from around 8.40 on Monday morning.

James Wright of the Highways Agency said: “Our traffic officers operated a 'rolling road-block’ on both sides of the carriageway for almost 20 minutes – positioning their vehicles at the front of the queue and driving at 20mph to hold traffic behind them.”

Police patrols were dispatched to round up Ben, but they never caught him. It seems he found his own way off the motorway and the traffic was released at 9.17am.

His owners frantically searched local raods looking for Ben.

He was found by railway workers on the HS1 line, close to the Maidstone service area, after travelling a distance of about four miles.
