Two pumps attended a fire at a house in Tonbridge Road, Maidstone, early on Saturday morning. The fire started in the ground floor airing cupboard of the two-storey home. The damage was contained but there was extensive smoke and firemen had to wear breathing apparatus to tackle the flames and then deployed a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke. No-one was injured in the incident, which lasted around 40 minutes. There was some disruption to traffic with the road temporarily closed because of smoke drifting across the carriageway.
