Drivers faced long delays on a motorway following a rush-hour crash.

Traffic stood still on the M20 London-bound, between Junction 8 for Maidstone services and Junction 9 for Ashford after a lorry and a 4x4 collided.

One lane had been blocked since 5.14pm while the vehicles were recovered but was open again at around 7pm.

The crash occurred in a section of the motorway which was already down to two narrow lanes as a result of Operation Brock, meaning only one was open for traffic.

The police and fire services have been asked for more information.
