FIRERFIGHTERS were today still at the scene of a blaze in which hundreds of tonnes of paper were destroyed.
The blaze occurred at a building owned by Larkfield packaging provider SCA. It broke out shortly after 4pm yesterday in an old red-brick paper storage unit off New Hythe Lane.
Today firefighters were still on standby as the paper was allowed to burn, controlled by hose reel jets.
At the height of the blaze eight crews from across Kent, including Larkfield, Maidstone, Strood, Canterbury, Ashford, Northfleet, Tonbridge and Halling, were involved in bringing it under control.
The building was severely damaged and it is thought it may have to be demolished.
