Hundreds of public sector workers marched through the streets of Maidstone to show their support for the national day of action.

Teachers, lecturers, care workers and other professions stood shoulder to shoulder - representing 11 unions - as they gathered in Bank Street and marched noisily up to County Hall in a good-natured protest.

The action was called against changes to public scetor pensions.

Once at County Hall, a series of speakers led attacks on government plans to change their pensions.

Among the marchers were lecturers and staff from University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in Maidstone. One of them, Adrian Lovis, said: "Everyone has been very supportive of the action, even if they are not necessarily taking action themselves."

Shop owners and other workers watched as the protest came through the town.

Taxi driver David Edwards said: "I do support them; I think most people are generally behind them."
